Assam govt, Walmart Vriddhi ink MoU to empower MSMEs, target 1 lakh enterprises by 2028

The Government of Assam has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Walmart Vriddhi to boost growth and digital empowerment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state. The agreement was signed with the Department of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises and implemented through Walmart Vriddhi’s program partner, Ideas to Impact Foundation.

Under the partnership, MSMEs will receive free training, mentoring and business tools to modernize and scale operations, including onboarding on eCommerce platforms such as Flipkart. The initiative supports Walmart Vriddhi’s national target to empower an additional 100,000 MSMEs by 2028. The Assam government will facilitate outreach through District Industries Centres to strengthen the state’s MSME ecosystem. The program will focus on sectors such as bamboo, cane, handloom and food processing, with rollout in Kamrup, Sonitpur, Cachar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Jorhat districts.

Commissioner of Industries and Commerce M.N. Dahal said the MoU reflects a shared commitment to enhance market access and technology adoption. Jason Fremstad, Senior Vice President, Supplier Development, Sourcing, Walmart International, said the collaboration will help small businesses scale and compete. Walmart Vriddhi, launched in 2019, has trained over 70,000 MSMEs across India. Interested enterprises can register through the official Walmart Vriddhi portals.
