Senior BJP leader and Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the BJP-led NDA is projected to secure over 100 seats in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. Speaking at a media conference, he emphasized a growing public sentiment favoring the alliance and expressed confidence in the formation of a stable, peace-oriented government that would continue its development agenda. Sonowal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to removing illegal immigrants and reclaiming encroached land to protect the rights and identity of Assam’s indigenous population. He asserted that tackling illegal immigration has been a focal point of governance, highlighting the BJP’s efforts to safeguard Assamese identity. Sonowal contrasted the current administration with past Congress rule, criticizing it for fostering illegal immigration for electoral gains and compromising indigenous rights, citing the IMDT Act as a notable example of detrimental policies. He also noted significant achievements, including the freeing of over 1.5 lakh bighas of land from illegal encroachments.
