Assam CM traces co-passenger to return borrowed charger

In an unusual yet heartwarming incident that unfolded mid-air and continued across continents, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has earned widespread praise for his humble gesture of returning a mobile charger borrowed during an international flight. The episode began on an Emirates flight from Delhi to Dubai, where the Chief Minister was seated next to 34-year-old Deepak Kapoor, a resident of Sector 12, Noida. During the journey, Kapoor kindly lent CM Sarma his international plug and phone charging cable. However, as fate would have it, Kapoor disembarked in Dubai while the Chief Minister was asleep, leaving no opportunity to return the items before parting ways.

Upon reaching Amsterdam and realizing he still had the charger, CM Sarma publicly expressed regret over the inadvertent oversight. Taking to social media, the Chief Minister posted, “I am pleased to inform you that, following my request, the Assam Police are currently working to identify and provide the contact details of the gentleman in question. My team is confident that this task will be completed within a few hours.” True to his word, the Assam Police swiftly acted and successfully traced Mr. Kapoor. CM Sarma soon made a personal phone call to apologize and offer to courier the charger back to his residence in Noida. In a follow-up post, Sarma shared, “I spoke with Mr. Deepak Kapoor, my co-passenger on yesterday’s flight to Dubai. I expressed my sincere apology for inadvertently retaining the mobile charger he kindly lent me. I assured him I would send the charger to his Noida residence. Demonstrating his graciousness, he insisted that such an effort was not necessary.”

Despite Kapoor’s insistence that no return was required, the Chief Minister’s follow-through and the efficiency of the Assam Police in tracing a co-passenger from an international flight were widely hailed on social media. Many users praised the humility, honesty, and accountability shown by one of the country’s top political figures.
