Assam CM thanks people for their support in the Panchayat Elections

Both State BJP President Dilip Saikia and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed their sincere gratitude to the Assamese people for their overwhelming support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in the most recent Panchayat elections. Speaking to reporters at Guwahati’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan on Tuesday, the two leaders hailed the outcome as a reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to strengthening the Panchayati Raj system across the state and a clear endorsement of its development plan.

The Chief Minister noted that the BJP only won 272 of the 397 Zila Parishad seats due to the people’s extraordinary support. The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Rabha Joutha Mancha, two friendly alliance parties, won 28 and 4 seats, respectively, increasing the BJP-led coalition’s vote share to an astounding 76.22%. In comparison to the 66% of votes received in the 2019 polls, this is a notable increase. The Congress party, on the other hand, had a sharp decline in performance, winning only 72 seats, or 18% of the total, as opposed to the 35% it had previously held.

CM Sarma and CM Saikia praised the BJP’s performance in the Anchalik Panchayat member constituencies, where they won 66% of the total seats, compared to the Congress’s 22%. They attributed this to the BJP’s focus on welfare schemes, rural development, and clean governance. The BJP’s State Head Office pledged to continue providing good governance and serving the people, focusing on inclusive growth and grassroots democracy. They also expressed gratitude to BJP leaders and karyakartas for their work during the election campaign, and special thanks to Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita.
