Assam CM Says Ink Attack Plot Against Gaurav Gogoi Thwarted, FIR Registered

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused elements within the Congress party of plotting to stage violent incidents involving their own leaders to garner public sympathy for the upcoming Assembly elections. He announced that police had already taken preventive measures, including an arrest, in response to the alleged conspiracy. During a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma detailed that a whistle-blower from Congress had informed the police about a plan to throw ink on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, purportedly to create a political narrative that would favor the opposition party.

Based on this information, the police registered a preventive FIR against three individuals involved: Sunil Kanagole, Saksham Marwah, and Adrita Das. Sarma indicated that these individuals were supposedly plotting to implicate the ruling BJP by orchestrating the ink-throwing incident. Preventive actions have been initiated by police to prevent any disturbances, and the three individuals are expected to report to the police and provide written commitments to be held accountable if any incident occurs. Marwah is reportedly affiliated with Inclusive Minds, an organization linked to the Congress party, which has raised further concerns regarding the party’s strategies.

Sarma claimed that two officials from Inclusive Minds are orchestrating political strategies for Congress, suggesting that the party merely executes these plans. One of the individuals allegedly involved in this scheme reportedly expressed his disapproval to the police, citing his identity as an Assamese as a reason for not supporting such actions.

In connection with this matter, police have arrested one individual and served a notice to another, with the investigation ongoing. Sarma mentioned that more information would be disclosed within four to five days. This controversy arose shortly after Gogoi had raised alarms about potential security lapses he was experiencing, which prompted the state government to escalate his security arrangements by enhancing personnel deployment.

The timing of these allegations comes just months before the Assam Assembly elections, heightening the tension between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress. Sarma’s comments frame the issue around matters of law and order and political ethics, whereas Congress leaders have accused the government of misusing security concerns for political gain. The police have yet to release a comprehensive official statement on the matter, and the investigations continue.
