Assam CM Praises PM Modi’s Leadership as US Lowers Tariffs on Indian Exports to 15%

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership following the announcement of an India–United States trade understanding that will lower tariffs on Indian products exported to the American market.

Under the new understanding, tariffs on Made in India goods entering the United States will be reduced to 15 per cent. The Chief Minister described the move as an important step for India’s manufacturing and export sectors, saying it would help Indian products reach a wider global market and improve competitiveness.

Taking to social media platform X, Sarma said the decision would create fresh opportunities for young people, farmers, and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the country. He noted that easier access to a large market like the US could help Indian producers expand their businesses and generate employment.

“On behalf of the people of Assam, we wholeheartedly applaud Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his credible and globally respected statesmanship, which has elevated India’s influence on the world stage. Today marks a significant milestone as Made in India products gain access to an even larger global marketplace,” Sarma wrote.

He further said that the agreement would strengthen cooperation between India and the United States, describing both countries as the world’s largest and oldest democracies. According to the Chief Minister, closer economic ties would not only support trade and industry but also contribute to global peace and prosperity.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi said he had a “wonderful” conversation with US President Donald Trump and welcomed the reduction in tariffs on Indian products. In a post on X, the Prime Minister thanked the US President for the move and said it would benefit the people of India.

“Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. Delighted that Made in India products will now have a reduced tariff of 15 per cent. Big thanks to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister added that stronger cooperation between the two democracies would open up new opportunities for growth that would benefit both countries. He also said India supports President Trump’s efforts towards global peace, stability, and prosperity.

“I look forward to working closely with him to take our partnership to unprecedented heights,” Modi said.
