Assam CM expresses grief on former Congress leader

On Monday, Former Assam Congress Minister and senior party leader Sarat Barkataki passed away at the age of 86.

The leader represented the Sonari Assembly constituency in the Jorhat district as an MLA for almost 25 years. Earlier, he had also held the position of Minister of Education.

According to the sources, the reason behind his death, Barkataki was undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

On the Leaders death, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressing his grief on ‘X’ posted, “I am saddened to hear of the passing away of senior politician, former Minister of Government of Assam, Mr. Sharat Barkatki. He is a skilled politician and a man of clean personality. I learned many things from him as a colleague for many years. His death is a great loss to the political spectrum of Assam.”

Further, along with the Assam CM other ministers have also offered their condolence on the senior leader’s death.
