Assam Cabinet Expansion Scheduled for June 5; Himanta Biswa Sarma Says Ministerial List Finalised

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the much-awaited expansion of the state cabinet will take place on June 5, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled to be held in Guwahati. The announcement came a day after the Chief Minister met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Sharing the update through social media, Sarma said that the list of ministers to be inducted into the cabinet has been finalised and approved. The cabinet expansion is expected to be a significant political development for the ruling BJP-led government ahead of the next phase of governance in the state. While the Chief Minister did not disclose the names of the legislators who are likely to be inducted, he confirmed that all preparations for the expansion have been completed.

Earlier, Sarma had indicated that the exercise would take place after June 3. With the date now officially announced, attention has shifted to the possible inclusion of new faces and the allocation of portfolios within the council of ministers. The Chief Minister’s visit to the national capital also included discussions on key developmental issues concerning Assam. Apart from meeting Prime Minister Modi, Sarma held a meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to review the progress of ongoing and proposed railway projects in the state. The review meeting focused on infrastructure development and railway connectivity projects aimed at improving transportation and boosting economic growth across Assam. The discussions are part of the Centre and state government’s continued efforts to strengthen infrastructure in the region.

Following his engagements in New Delhi, Sarma formally announced the cabinet expansion schedule, paving the way for the induction of new ministers into the Assam government. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by senior political leaders, government officials and party functionaries. More details regarding the composition of the expanded cabinet are likely to emerge in the coming days.
