The Assam Book Fair in Guwahati will transform into a prominent literary festival this year, featuring significant participation from national publishers and enhanced programming, to honor young writers. Scheduled to run for 14 days starting December 24 at the Khanapara Veterinary College playground, this event is organized by the Publication Board Assam in conjunction with the All Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association. Pramod Kalita, secretary of the Publication Board, noted that the fair’s timing was adjusted to accommodate preparations for Republic Day, celebrated on January 26.
This year’s fair extends its duration from 12 days to 14, indicating growing interest and attendance. A total of 135 stalls will be established, showcasing publishers from various regions including 11 from Delhi and Haryana, 17 from Kolkata, as well as one each from Mumbai and Hyderabad, alongside multiple publishers from Assam. Kalita mentioned that several exhibitors who previously opted for smaller stalls have chosen to upgrade to larger executive stalls this year, attributed to strong sales in the last edition. As the event approaches, workers are finalizing the stalls, with books being organized in anticipation of the fair’s opening.
