Assam BJP Warns of Growing Radicalisation in Bangladesh, Flags Security Threat to State and Northeast

The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed strong concerns regarding increasing radicalization in Bangladesh, which it views as a direct threat to Assam and the Northeast region. In a statement, the BJP described the situation as a “dangerous, unfolding reality,” warning that neglecting this issue would be “wilful negligence,” rather than liberalism. The party highlighted Assam’s porous borders and past cross-border instability, predicting that the spread of extremist ideology could severely jeopardize security and social harmony.

These remarks followed Minister Pijush Hazarika’s condemnation of the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh, near the Assam border, which he characterized as horrific. Hazarika cautioned that demographic shifts tied to targeted propaganda could lead to violence, urging immediate action to protect people, culture, and territorial integrity. The BJP reiterated that failure to act could threaten Assam’s identity and internal security, asserting that the spillover of extremist ideology is a tangible geopolitical issue. They proclaimed that vigilance, awareness, and prompt actions are critical, positioning the countering of cross-border threats and the safeguarding of community safety as national priorities, particularly for Assam and the Northeast.
