The four-day Budget Session of Assam Legislative Assembly got underway today. Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog will present the vote-on-account for the fiscal 2026-27 in the Assembly tomorrow. Since assembly elections are due in the state this year, a vote-on-account or interim budget will be presented instead of a full- fledged budget. The new government to be formed after the polls will present a full-fledged budget later. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika said that the Governor will give his speech today and there will be a discussion on his speech. “Tomorrow, the proceedings will begin with Question Hour followed by the Finance Minister laying the vote-on-ccount and a discussion and debate on it,” Hazarika said. Today, the Governor’s Address will be followed by obituary references. Speaker Biswajit Daimary will then announce the Report of the Business Advisory Committee setting the business for the session. After that, there will be laying of ordinances, reports, and rules, presentation of reports of Assembly Committees, motion for election of members to various committees and boards, introduction of Government Bills, Motion of Thanks on the Governor’s Address, and presentation of Supplementary Demands for Grants and Supplementary Appropriation for 2025-26.
