Militants who surrendered in Tripura have announced an indefinite blockade of National Highway 8, the state’s only road link with Assam and the rest of the country through West Bengal’s Siliguri Chicken Neck, from November 5 due to unfulfilled promises.
The Deprived Return Movement Committee (DRMC), a joint body of militants who surrendered in Tripura, said they have six major demands, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), power tillers, piggery and housing facilities under the Animal Resource Development Department. ARDD), education for children of returnee families, rubber plantations for rehabilitation and withdrawal of pending cases against Ultras. All these must be fulfilled, otherwise, the national highway will be blocked from November 5.
