Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday formally handed over cheques for Rs 5 lakh each as one-time financial assistance to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the mini dumper accident in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.During an interaction with the victims’ families at Gelapukhuri in Assam’s Tinsukia district, the Chief Minister expressed his deep condolences to the families of the deceased and also wished speedy recovery of the person who narrowly survived the accident and is currently undergoing treatment.Sarma asked the district administration to take all necessary steps to ensure proper medical care.
In addition, financial assistance of Rs one lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund was provided for the treatment of the injured person. Twenty-one persons, mostly workers from Tinsukia district, died when the truck carrying them to a construction site, skidded off a narrow mountain road and plunged into a deep gorge near Chaglagam in Anjaw district on the night of December 8. One labourer survived the mishap. The bodies of the deceased were retrieved during search operations by multiple agencies, including NDRF and Indian Army.
The Chief Minister further directed the District Commissioner to ensure that the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident, who have not yet been covered under the Orunodoi scheme or provided with ration cards, are extended the benefits at the earliest.He also instructed the district administration to provide necessary support for the education of the children of the affected families.
