Anthropic PBC has named former Microsoft executive Irina Ghose as Managing Director for its India operations, marking a key step in strengthening its presence in one of its most important global markets. The San Francisco–based AI company, backed by Amazon and Google, is preparing to open its first office in India as it ramps up efforts to tap into the country’s growing enterprise demand for AI solutions.
Ghose, who previously served as Managing Director of Microsoft India, brings over 30 years of experience in expanding technology businesses and advancing AI adoption across sectors such as banking, manufacturing and healthcare. Her appointment reflects Anthropic’s ambition to scale rapidly and compete more aggressively with rivals like OpenAI.
India has become a major growth driver for Anthropic, with around 2.1 million users—about 13 percent of its global base—making it the company’s second-largest market after the US. Ghose noted that Indian organisations are moving beyond pilot projects toward large-scale AI deployment.
Anthropic’s India expansion also aligns with strong revenue momentum, with annualised revenue nearing $7 billion as enterprise usage accelerates. Nearly half of Claude.ai usage in India comes from technical fields, highlighting the country’s role as a centre for developer-led innovation.
The company plans to open its Bengaluru office in February, with CEO Dario Amodei expected to attend and engage with policymakers, businesses and academic institutions.
