Passengers on an IndiGo flight from Dibrugarh to Guwahati, including Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, faced a few tense moments on Sunday afternoon when their aircraft made an unexpected go-around just seconds before touching down at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport. The incident involved IndiGo flight 6E-187, operated on the Dibrugarh–Guwahati route. As the Airbus prepared for its scheduled landing, the aircraft suddenly pulled up and climbed back into the skies, leaving several passengers startled. Moments later, the plane circled the airport and landed safely on its second attempt, much to the relief of those onboard.
Airport officials later confirmed that the maneuver was a standard aviation safety procedure. “A go-around is absolutely normal in commercial aviation. It is usually carried out if the approach is unstable or if the pilot is not satisfied with landing conditions. It can also be instructed by Air Traffic Control in cases of runway obstruction or sudden changes in weather,” an IndiGo spokesperson said. The airline clarified that there was no threat to passengers at any point. “Passenger safety is our highest priority. The decision to go around was purely precautionary, and the aircraft landed smoothly thereafter,” the company said in a statement.
According to airport sources, such procedures are part of pilot training and are often performed to maintain the highest safety standards. “It’s always better for a pilot to initiate a missed approach than attempt a landing in less-than-ideal conditions,” one official explained, noting that the flight later continued on its onward journey after completing necessary checks.
