The investigation into the mysterious death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg took a significant turn on Wednesday as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandipan Garg was arrested following his questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). This brings the total number of arrests in the high-profile case to five.
The arrest occurred shortly after DSP Garg arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office in connection with the ongoing probe. Authorities confirmed that he will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) later today. DSP Garg, who is a cousin of the late singer, was reportedly aboard the yacht in Singapore where the incident occurred. He had earlier been among several individuals questioned by the SIT as part of their exhaustive investigation. Following hours of interrogation, Garg posted on his official Facebook page, stating, “I’ve fully cooperated with the SIT,” highlighting his compliance with the ongoing inquiry.
The SIT’s probe into Zubeen Garg’s untimely death has witnessed rapid developments over the past week. On October 1, two key individuals—Siddharth Sharma, the singer’s manager, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, the festival organiser behind the Singapore event—were arrested and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Later, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and singer Amritprabha Mahanta were also taken into custody and remanded for 14 days.
