Almonds prove to be key in cardiometabolic health, aid weight management: Experts’ consensus

A new peer-reviewed study has reaffirmed that daily consumption of almonds provides significant benefits for cardiometabolic health, supporting heart health, weight management, and gut microbiome. The consensus, reached by 11 leading scientists and physicians, concludes that eating almonds daily, especially 50g per day, can help reduce LDL cholesterol, lower diastolic blood pressure, and promote healthy weight management.

The study, published in Current Developments in Nutrition, highlights that almonds are not only heart-healthy but also contribute to metabolic health by improving the gut microbiome. Almonds are rich in fiber, protein, and unsaturated fats, which help reduce body fat and support blood sugar control. Notably, the research found that almonds could significantly aid weight management without leading to weight gain.

Dr. Anoop Misra, a leading Indian expert, emphasized the relevance of this study for India, where rising cardiometabolic diseases are a growing concern. He noted that almonds can help manage blood glucose levels, particularly in Asian Indians with prediabetes. As more people adopt healthier lifestyles, almond-based products are gaining a foothold in the local market, aligning with the broader trend of improving dietary habits across the region.
