AJP’s Kunki Gets Backing from Parakala Prabhakar in Guwahati Central Race

Parakala Prabhakar, a political economist and spouse of Nirmala Sitharaman, has publicly endorsed Kunki Chowdhury, the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate for the 36 Guwahati Central constituency. In a video message to voters, he emphasized the local and national importance of the upcoming elections in Guwahati Central, suggesting that the results could have lasting implications for India. Prabhakar pointed out the interconnectedness of India’s political landscape, where electoral outcomes in Assam could impact regions such as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He expressed concern that core constitutional values—secularism, democracy, tolerance, social justice, equality, and fraternity—are under threat, emphasizing the need for responsible voting to protect these ideals.

He praised Chowdhury as a capable, well-educated leader with both national and international experience, asserting that her representation would bring fresh perspectives, maturity, and the capacity to fulfill public aspirations. Prabhakar framed the election as a matter of development and ideology, encouraging voters to support Chowdhury, arguing that doing so would promote progress, uphold constitutional values, and ensure justice for notable Assamese cultural figure Zubeen Garg. He concluded that a vote for Kunki is synonymous with a vote for development, constitutional integrity, and justice.
