Ajmal Announces Owaisi’s Two-Day Poll Visit to Assam

Badruddin Ajmal on Friday said that Asaduddin Owaisi will visit Assam in early April to campaign for candidates of the All India United Democratic Front ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Ajmal said the visit was decided after a meeting between his son Abdul Rahman Ajmal and Owaisi in Delhi. He said the discussion began during a dinner meeting and later continued over a phone call with him, after which both sides agreed on the visit.“Today my son went to meet him for dinner. They spoke there, then I also spoke to him on the phone. After that, it was decided that he will visit Assam. We will try to organise at least eight programmes during his visit,” Ajmal said.

According to party leaders, Owaisi is expected to spend two days in the state and will address several public meetings, mainly in and around Guwahati. The visit is being seen as part of a wider campaign effort by the party to reach voters before polling. Earlier, Owaisi had also confirmed his party’s support for AIUDF. He said the decision came after a request from Ajmal and added that Abdul Rahman Ajmal had met him at his residence in Delhi. He also spoke to Badruddin Ajmal over the phone before finalising the plan. Party leaders said the visit will focus on strengthening coordination between the two parties and reaching out to voters in key constituencies. Political observers believe that such joint efforts may play a role in shaping the contest in seats where minority votes are significant.

At the same time, Owaisi’s party has been active in other eastern states as well. In West Bengal, the party recently extended support to Humayun Kabir and his Aam Janata Unnayan Party. Owaisi said the aim is to encourage leadership from within minority communities and to build a stronger political presence in the region. Assam will go to polls in a single phase on April 9 for its 126-member Assembly. In West Bengal, voting will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes for both states is scheduled for May 4.
