AIUDF Suspends Two MLAs Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities; One Decides to Quit

In a significant political shift ahead of the upcoming state elections in Assam, the All-India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), an opposition party, has suspended two of its legislators for a six-year term due to alleged anti-party activities. The suspended members include Abdul Aziz, the MLA for Badarpur, and Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, who also serves as the party’s vice president. This decision was made following a directive from the party’s central committee and reflects concerns over the controversial actions of both leaders that the party deems detrimental to its interests.

The AIUDF, under the signature of General Secretary (administration) Hafiz Bashir Ahmed, indicated that the pair’s activities had been closely monitored and were found to violate party principles significantly. These activities were categorized as misconduct that harmed the organization’s reputation and were interpreted as attempts to align with an opposing political party, potentially signaling their shift in allegiances. Furthermore, Barbhuiya has publicly announced his departure from the AIUDF, revealing his decision to leave the party following discussions with various societal groups, amidst swirling rumors regarding political realignments in the state leading up to the elections. This suspension and Barbhuiya’s resignation underscore the turbulent landscape of Assam’s political environment as different factions prepare for electoral contestation.
