In the lead-up to the Assembly elections in Assam, Badruddin Ajmal, the chief of the All-India United Democratic Front and a well-known businessman, has reported assets exceeding ₹222 crore in his recent election affidavit. This figure signifies a considerable growth from the ₹151.71 crore declared during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, amounting to an increase of more than ₹70 crore over two years. Ajmal, recognized primarily for his association with Ajmal Perfumes—a global fragrance brand—is running for election from the newly established Binnakandi constituency located in the Hojai district. His participation in this election marks his return to state-level politics after his prior defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a seat he had occupied continuously since 2009.
The affidavit outlines a notable rise in Ajmal’s immovable assets, which now total ₹169.90 crore, an increase from ₹123.36 crore in 2024. His movable assets have also surged to ₹52.43 crore, compared to ₹28.34 crore previously. Within his asset portfolio, Ajmal lists nine vehicles and four residential properties located in Mumbai and Delhi, collectively valued at ₹57.72 crore, and diversifies his investments across various sectors, including real estate, nature care, and aromatics. Additionally, the affidavit includes mention of a licensed firearm among his assets.
Ajmal’s spouse, Rizwaana Badruddin Ajmal, has declared her movable assets to be worth ₹31.08 lakh and immovable assets at ₹6.82 lakh. The family’s property encompasses both agricultural and non-agricultural land, with holdings spread throughout Assam, Karnataka, and other regions.
Liabilities reported in the affidavit total ₹4.45 crore, largely consisting of loans obtained from financial institutions. The significant increase in Ajmal’s declared financial status has sparked considerable discussion among voters, particularly as candidate disclosures face intensified public scrutiny ahead of the elections.
