Air Force Station Guwahati will observe the 10th Armed Forces Veterans Day on January 14, 2026, with solemn ceremonies to honour the courage, service and sacrifices of veterans from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
Armed Forces Veterans Day is commemorated annually on January 14 and holds special importance as it marks the retirement of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, OBE, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. A key architect of India’s post-independence military leadership, Field Marshal Cariappa later dedicated himself to the welfare of veterans, making the day a tribute to their enduring legacy.
The observance at Air Force Station Guwahati will begin with a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial to pay homage to soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. This will be followed by an interaction with veterans and their families, providing a platform to address concerns related to welfare, healthcare, resettlement and pension benefits in coordination with relevant agencies.
Facilitation counters and information stalls will also be set up by organisations associated with veterans’ affairs to assist ex-servicemen and veer naris, while creating awareness about various government and service-specific welfare schemes.
Senior Armed Forces officers, distinguished veterans and representatives from the civil administration are expected to attend the event, reflecting the nation’s collective commitment to the well-being of its veterans. Air Force Station Guwahati expressed pride in hosting the 10th Armed Forces Veterans Day and reaffirmed its steadfast support for veterans, whose courage and sacrifice remain the foundation of the Armed Forces’ ethos.
