Ahead of finalising the Congress party’s candidates for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections, two MPs and members of the Election Screening Committee constituted by the All-India Congress Committee — Imran Masood and Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka — will once again visit Assam.
During their visit, the two members will participate in important meetings across various districts of the state to review organisational matters and preparations for the upcoming elections.
According to sources in the Pradesh Congress Committee, MP Imran Masood will leave Guwahati for Hojai on March 3 and hold interactions with district and block-level leaders and workers, prospective candidates, sitting and former MLAs and MPs and representatives of various organisations.
Thereafter, Masood will travel to Donkamokam in West Karbi Anglong district, where he will meet local party leaders and representatives of various organisations. He will then proceed to Haflong in Dima Hasao district for an overnight stay. On March 4, after attending a meeting in Haflong, he will depart for Delhi in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the other member of the screening committee, Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, will arrive in Guwahati on March 5. He will then travel to Kokrajhar, where he will hold meetings from with district and block Congress leaders, prospective candidates, senior citizens and representatives of various professional and social organisations.
On the morning of March 6, Ulaka will proceed from Kokrajhar to Dhubri and attend meetings. He will subsequently visit Mankachar in South Salmara-Mankachar district and participate in discussions before leaving for Delhi.
Through this visit, the two leaders will seek to strengthen the organisational structure and streamline the candidate selection process ahead of the forthcoming elections, sources in the Pradesh Congress stated.
