AI, content creation emerge as top roles for fresh graduates: LinkedIn report

Artificial Intelligence specialists, Generative AI engineers, and digital content creators are among the fastest-growing roles for fresh graduates in India, according to LinkedIn’s latest Grads’ Guide 2026. The report highlights a shifting job landscape where opportunities are expanding beyond traditional technology roles into business and people-centric sectors. The data shows strong demand across functions such as Human Resources, Consulting, Information Technology, Marketing, and Project Management. Among industries, Utilities, Education, Government Administration, Transportation and Logistics, and Energy Technology are emerging as key growth drivers for early career professionals.

LinkedIn Career Expert Nirajita Banerjee said young professionals must stay open to unconventional career paths, adding that “skills can travel across sectors” and diverse experiences help build long-term career momentum. The report also points to rising hiring momentum among smaller firms, with recruitment in companies employing 1–10 people growing sharply between 2023 and 2025. Non-metro cities like Vijayawada, Bhopal, Jaipur, Indore, Gwalior, and Vadodara are increasingly becoming hiring hubs, expanding opportunities beyond traditional metros.

Internships are playing a crucial role in employability, with a higher share of entry-level hires having prior internship experience, especially in Consulting, Engineering, IT, and Business Development. In Kolkata, the findings indicate growing opportunities in digital content, marketing, and IT services, driven by the city’s expanding startup ecosystem and media sector. Recruitment trends suggest that fresh graduates in Kolkata are increasingly tapping into roles in content creation, AI-led services, and project management, aligning with national hiring patterns while benefiting from the city’s evolving professional landscape.
