Ahead of Polls, Narendra Modi Highlights Plan to Globalize Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the transformation of Assam during an election rally in Barpeta on April 6, highlighting a shift in focus from preserving the state’s identity over the past decade to positioning it on a global stage and enhancing self-reliance in the coming years. He reviewed the achievements of the BJP-led government, which prioritized peace, harmony, and development, and critiqued the Indian National Congress for lacking a long-term vision, contrasting it with the BJP’s roadmap for a developed Assam as part of a developed India. Modi stated, “The last decade was about restoring peace and stability in Assam. The next phase will be about expanding prosperity, enhancing self-reliance, and showcasing Assam’s identity on the global platform.” He reaffirmed the party’s principle of “Nation First,” urging public support to realize a developed India. Modi praised improvements in connectivity that have fostered tourism and regional growth, and noted that Assam’s Joha rice is on track for international recognition, promising benefits for local farmers. He concluded by confirming that Assam’s Assembly elections will occur on April 9, with vote counting on May 4.
