Ahead of PM Visit, Assam CM Takes Stock of Emergency Landing Arrangements

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the preparations for an emergency landing facility (ELF) on the Dibrugarh–Moran national highway, designated for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival on February 14 as part of an Indian Air Force (IAF) exercise. Sarma inspected the 4.2-km area between Moran and Demow, discussing construction and logistics with officials. The Prime Minister will land at Chabua Air Force base, then travel to Moran via a C-130 transport aircraft before heading to Guwahati. The event will feature approximately 16 IAF aircraft, including Rafale and Sukhoi fighters, marking a significant demonstration at an ELF. Local students have been invited to witness the exercise, aimed at inspiring future Air Force recruits. Sarma emphasized that the event will solely include an aircraft landing demonstration, with no public speeches planned. The ELF is part of the Dibrugarh–Moran highway project and aims to enhance regional strategic infrastructure, allowing for aircraft landings during emergencies, such as floods.
