Agp celebrates 42nd foundation day with call to uphold regionalism

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora on Wednesday said regionalism is the soul of Assam’s identity, pride and aspirations.

“The unwavering faith and affection of the people towards a regional party like the Asom Gana Parishad continue to inspire us in our commitment to serve the state and its people,” Bora said on the occasion of AGP’s 42nd foundation day celebration in Dhemaji.

The day marked 41 years of AGP’s journey since the party’s formation on October 14, 1985 in Golaghat, as an outcome of the historic six-year-long Assam Movement.

“The AGP is more than a political party; it is a powerful expression of Assam’s regional aspirations, identity and self-respect. On this historic occasion, I paid my deepest tributes to the martyrs of the Assam Movement and expressed my heartfelt gratitude to every karyakarta, well-wisher and the people of Assam who continue to uphold the party’s ideals of unity, harmony, fraternity and progressive regionalism,” Bora said.

“As we step into our 42nd year, our resolve remains firm: AGP’s growth, Assam’s development. With the active participation of the younger generation, we are committed to safeguarding Assam’s interests and building a self-reliant, progressive and prosperous state,” he said.

The party’s foundation day celebration was graced by AGP working president Keshab Mahanta, MPs Phani Bhushan Choudhury and Birendra Prasad Baishya; AGP MLAs; office-bearers and members of the AGP central committee, representatives of the party’s frontal organisations and party workers.

Alliance partner BJP’s prominent leaders, including minister and Dhemaji MLA, Ranoj Pegu; minister Jayanta Malla Baruah; MP Pradan Baruah among others also attended the programme.
