Across Tea Estates, ABITA commemorates the World Day for Safety and Health at Work

The Tea Estates Management and the Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA) Zone 1 commemorated the World Day for Safety and Health at Work at several tea estates in the districts of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, and Charaideo. at observance of the day, awareness-raising events were held for the benefit of factory workers, plantation workers, health personnel, teenagers, and community members at factories, public spaces, labour lines, etc. The programs primarily addressed workplace safety for factory and plantation workers and provided information on safety procedures and practices.

During the program, the workers received training on topics such as first aid and emergency situations, tool safety, chemical handling, hydration and rest, and the usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) kits. This included dos and don’ts during fire crises as well as fire preventive advice. In order to prepare people and communities to react safely and efficiently to natural or man-made disasters, an awareness program was also planned in collaboration with the local population. It involved educating individuals about the value of road safety and the regulations that they must abide by.

Adolescents and the younger generation were made aware of cyber safety and other scams, and they were given internet safety guidelines to help them avoid online abuse, fraud, and other forms of online banking. About 3200 industrial and plantation workers, including teenagers and members of the community, participated in awareness programs held on 45 tea farms. ABITA Zone 1 Secretary Madhurjya Barooah stated that the tea estates’ commemoration of World Safety and Health at Workplace would raise awareness among employees, particularly on workplace safety procedures and practices.
