Guwahati residents are willing to sacrifice luxuries for better health insurance coverage due to the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the importance of a health-focused lifestyle. Aditya Birla Health Insurance Company Ltd (ABHICL) reports that the pandemic has impacted behavior, such as technology usage, diet monitoring, and exercise routines.
ABHICL’s survey of 6600 respondents in 19 cities, including Guwahati, revealed increased health and wellness awareness post-COVID-19. 79% of respondents emphasized the importance of financial planning and health insurance, as healthcare costs have raised. The shift from reactive to proactive care emphasizes the need for adequate health insurance coverage and a shift from reactive to proactive care. Mayank Bathwal, CEO, Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co Ltd said, “People who were not insured, wanted to buy health insurance plans whereas, those who had an insurance, looked for higher coverage or sum insured”.
Guwahati’s financial preparedness has improved due to the Covid pandemic, with 57% planning for emergencies. However, 31% are uncertain about their financial situation and 78% people would trade luxury items for health insurance. ABHICL aims to educate and create a supportive environment for mental health issues.
