Abbott has launched the FreeStyle LibreLink app in India, a digital health tool that allows users to measure their glucose on their mobile phones without the need for finger pricking. Finger pricks are required if the glucose readings do not match symptoms or expectations. Dr. Manoj Chawla, a Senior Diabetologist, believes that the ability to automatically receive real-time glucose information can facilitate easier diabetes management for people with diabetes and their caregivers, leading to more precise and informed decision-making.
The app is compatible with iPhone and Android smartphones and uses near-field communication (NFC) technology to transfer glucose data from the sensor to the app. This allows users to track eight-hour glucose history, real-time trend patterns to manage food, insulin use, medication, and exercise on their smartphone. The app eliminates the need for a separate reader for glucose monitoring.
Speaking on the launch, Kalyan Sattaru, general manager of Abbott’s Diabetes Care Business in South Asia said, “At Abbott, we are committed to ensuring our FreeStyle Libre technology not only simplifies the daily routines for people living with diabetes but also empowers them to manage their diabetes more effectively.”
