ABB Robotics and New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology (NAMTECH) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish India’s first School of Robotics, slated to open in 2025. This collaboration aims to bridge the skills gap in robotics and automation, aligning with India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision for self-reliance in the manufacturing sector.
The school will integrate ABB’s global expertise with NAMTECH’s innovative educational approach to develop a curriculum that fosters skills essential for the future of work. “This partnership will create a globally competitive talent pool, empowering India’s youth with industry-relevant robotics skills,” said Subrata Karmakar, President, ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation, India.
Kolkata, known for its diverse manufacturing base, stands to benefit significantly from this venture. As automation grows, Kolkata’s industries are poised to leverage a skilled workforce trained at the School of Robotics, enhancing productivity and competitiveness in sectors like automotive, electronics, and logistics.
With India ranking seventh globally in robot installations and recording an installation increase of 59% in 2023, the ABB-NAMTECH initiative marks a critical step toward developing India’s automation talent pool and boosting smart manufacturing across the nation.
