A flood preparedness meeting was organized in the district of Tamulpur

Pankaj Chakravarty, the district commissioner of Tamulpur district and the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, presided over a flood preparedness meeting on Tuesday in the commissioner’s office conference room. In order to prevent any loss of life or property and to guarantee that the general public does not encounter any challenges during the impending rainy season, the District Commissioner asked all relevant departments to maintain their vigilance.

He added that it might be harder to control the flood issue this year because the approaching time frame falls during elections. He underlined the necessity of reducing the number of educational facilities used as makeshift camps. He also brought up the crucial issue that without the administration’s prior consent, no person or group will be permitted to provide aid to flood victims. The purpose of this decision is to shield individuals from possible cases of food poisoning.

Nearly ten rivers, including the Borolia, Pagladiya, Puthimari, Kalanadi, and Motonga, regularly cause flooding in the district. Remarkably, 116 villages in the district experienced flooding the year before, including 74 villages in the Goreswar Assembly Constituency and 42 villages in the Tamulpur Assembly Constituency. The Additional Commissioners, department heads, police, paramilitary forces, and SDRF personnel attended the meeting.
