9 out of 10 customers in India want cars with a safety rating: Study

A survey by Škoda Auto India and NIQ BASES revealed that customers strongly prefer safety features in personal cars. 9 out of 10 customers believe all cars in India should have a safety rating. Crash-ratings and airbags were the top two features driving consumer car purchase decisions, with fuel-efficiency being a popular feature.

A survey of 67% of respondents, aged 18-54, found that car crash rating was the top driver of customer car purchase decisions, with 22.3% importance. Airbags and fuel efficiency were the third most important drivers. A maximum preference of 22.2% was observed for 5-star ratings, followed by 21.3% for 4-star ratings. Zero crash ratings were the least preferred, with 6.8% score.

Although 76% of customers in India are aware of the existence of two sets of 5-star safety ratings, only 30% identify child/rear occupant safety ratings as one of them. PetrŠolc, Brand Director, Škoda Auto India, said, “And Škoda will continue focusing on these values to grow the brand in the Indian market.”A study aimed to understand consumer perception of car safety through a survey, focusing on features that influence consumer choice.
