More than 38 lakh families in the state are now covered by the Assam government’s flagship women-centric financial aid program, Orunodoi 3.0, which was introduced on October 7. During the official launch event in Guwahati, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma referred to Orunodoi 3.0 as the “largest anti-poverty initiative in Assam’s history.” Now, each beneficiary will get ₹1,250 a month, plus an extra ₹250 in subsidies for buying LPG cylinders.
Instantly, more than 38 lakh ladies received Rs 1,250. Following the occasion, Sarma wrote on X, “Assam today expanded its flagship financial support scheme #Orunodoi3 to become the largest ever anti-poverty scheme in the state.” According to the Chief Minister, thousands of households have benefited greatly from the program’s assistance in escaping poverty and leading dignified lives. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that no impoverished family is left behind, saying, “With Orunodoi, we have laid a comprehensive support net for our people that aligns with the spirit of Antyodaya.”
Although he did not provide specifics, Sarma also stated that a “special surprise” for beneficiaries would be revealed in February. In addition to Orunodoi, the Assam government still provides free healthcare facilities, free education, incentives for the education of girls, free rice, and subsidized pulses and LPG cylinders through a number of welfare programs.
