367 Cachar women get scooters in Sakhi Express launch

At a lavish event conducted at Udiyaman Mahila CMTC, Itkhola Bazar, 367 community cadres from the Cachar district got scooters under the Sakhi Express initiative, marking a significant step toward rural empowerment. In his keynote speech, Minister Kaushik Rai praised Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for his inspiring leadership and said Sakhi Express would improve women’s financial independence and last-mile governance. He urged those who received the scooters to use them as instruments for rural transformation and service.

MLA Dipayan Chakraborty praised the effort as a landmark step for women’s empowerment and added that mobility will increase village outreach and fortify Self-Help Groups. Cachar’s low SHG loan non-performing asset (NPA) rate was emphasized by DC Mridul Yadav (IAS), who also stated that the mobility boost will improve women’s involvement in development and financial inclusion.

Invoking cadres to serve with commitment and the spirit of “Sakhi Bhabana,” Zilla Parishad President Kankan Narayan Sikdar referred to the scooters as a “bridge of trust” between the government and rural people.

The program, according to CEO Pranab Kumar Bora (ACS), is revolutionary, empowering grassroots institutions and bridging rural-urban divides. The gathering, which was attended by community residents and officials, was a major step in implementing women-led, people-centric development throughout the Cachar region.
