The Assam government has decided to allow around 20 new Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) shops in the state.
According to sources, Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said there are several areas in Assam where people drink duty-free liquor due to lack of wine shops.
He said, “We have decided to set up 20 shops to ensure that people drink alcohol from genuine places and do not harm their health. In the process these people will pay taxes and get quality liquor”.
Also, in May 2020 Assam increased the excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) by 25 percent.
