1% of 2024-25 budget dedicated to child welfare in BTR

The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam has announced plans to allocate a special budget for child-friendly initiatives, marking a significant step toward the welfare of children in the region. BTC Chief Pramod Boro confirmed that 1% of the 2024-25 budget will be dedicated to advancing a child-friendly environment in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Speaking at a consultation meeting on ‘Child-Friendly BTR,’ Boro emphasized the administration’s commitment to the holistic development of children. “We are dedicated to ensuring that every child in the BTR is supported and protected through effective policies and initiatives,” Boro stated.

The meeting, attended by BTC executive members, UNICEF Assam, and Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights representatives, discussed ongoing child-friendly programs. Key topics included media’s role in combating violence against children, implementing the Mission Vatsalya scheme, and strategies to eliminate child labor.

Discussions also focused on establishing Child Welfare and Protection Committees in all four BTR districts, forming Sponsorship and Foster Care Approval Committees, and appointing Child Marriage Prohibition Officers in Sixth Schedule Areas of Assam. The initiatives aim to secure a brighter future for children across the region.
