This Pujo, Prajna Dutta appears again with his latest single – ‘Tumi Mon Chhuye Chhile’. It is a breath of fresh air that celebrates one’s love and loss during the Pujo days.

‘Tumi Mon Chhuye Chhile’ – composed, written and sung by Prajna Dutta, the nostalgic and sentimental song has been arranged by Dipesh Chakraborty, mixed and mastered by Debojit Sengupta. The video has been directed by Kuntal Ghosh. A Gan Gappo original, the video has been shot and edited by Joyjyoti Pal and features Zephyr Dance Academy’s Jhilik Pal and her team.

The Wisdom Tree Café brings ‘Prelude with Prajna’

The Wisdom Tree Café has joined hands with the multi talented interdisciplinary artist Prajna Dutta for a series of Interviews by the name of ‘Prelude with Prajna’. A tribute song to Kolkata’s well-known street Musician Bhagoban Mali

A group of young talented musicians in Kolkata teamed up to make a song in tribute to a street musician. The group has recently released original single titled ‘Behala Bajan’. The song has been sung by Gourab Sarkar while it’s been composed by Prajna Dutta, written by Dibyendu Bandyopadhyay featuring Bhagoban Mali himself. Bhagoban Mali is a street musician from Kolkata who plays violin on the streets of Kolkata for his bread and butter.

Speaking about this special song and the hard works behind it, the composer of the song Prajna Dutta, said, “In these times of crisis if artists do not support fellow artists then we are going towards a bleak future. This song is merely not a song but a celebration of the undaunted spirit of musicianship. No matter how difficult the times are music will always help you to sail through. Also, this is the first time that an original song has been composed solely as a tribute to a street musician.”

Gourab shared what inspired them to create ‘Behala Bajan’. “I had a wonderful time doing this song, in fact, I was telling Prajna that we should do more issue-based musical work and this is not a one-off endeavour, there are wonderful street musicians all around the city, and it would be an absolute honour to incorporate their talent in originals,” explained the talented singer.

Prajna Dutta’s new single Majhboyeshi Chalona

Singer and Composer Prajna Dutta collaborates with Saswata Ray for his new single Majhboyeshi Chalona. In Prajna’s voice, the song is a melodious romantic number that speaks of the “mid-life” struggles and realisations of every individual and spreads a note of hopefulness. The song has been officially released by Gan Gappo.

Majhboyeshi Chalona has been written by Saswata Ray and composed by Prajna himself. The song has been arranged, mixed, and additionally composed by Dipesh Chakraborty, and Recorded at Studio Inspiration. Saswata Ray, the lyricist of the song commented, “This song is a take on the realisations of life that one may or may not fathom fully, let’s say when they are nearing their middle age. The interesting part is if we really know when we reach our so called “mid-life”? The song also resonates with a few loud thoughts with oneself and also with the people around us.” He thanked Prajna, for being a great soul and an amazing friend and hopes to collaborate in many more projects with him in the future.

The music video of Majhboyeshi Chalona features various artists as- Saswata, Prajna, Rohan, Avishek, Arpita Sanyal, Arpita Goswami-Chanda, Soham, Himadri, Margita, Souvik, and Madhurima. The music video was shot in Kolkata and Newzeland. About his experience working on the song, Prajna said, “Had a wonderful time working on this song. Interestingly did the tune according to the lyrics given by Saswata da, then some really cool additional composition was done by Dipesh. I had a ball singing it and while singing tried my level best to bring out the drama present in the lyrics. Look forward to some more groovy collabs with the entire team. Cheers.”

Mukhoshtantra marks return of Nigel Akkara

A pastiche reinterpretation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Mukhoshtantra is the fourth production of Kolahal. It marks the return of actor and social activist Nigel Akkara on stage after 7 years. PRAJNA In this play, Bengali martial folk forms like Chchau and Raebeshi, and South Indian marital forms like Kalari and Silambam have been used with the Filipino Art of Kali and the Maori art of Haka. Mukhoshtantra is all set to premiere at Rabindra Mancha, Chittaranjan on 4 April, on invitation from Anubhab cultural group.
Light design for this play has been planned by Kalyan Ghosh while the periodic costumes have been done by Sajsajja and sound design by Bandan Mishra. The cast and crew of the play are mostly from Kolahal. Nigel played the lead role of Macbeth, actress Ashmita Mukherjee played Lady Macbeth, poet and actor Debasish Sarkar played Duncan and the role of Malcolm has been portrayed by Prajna Dutta. This adaptation by director Prajna Dutta is pickled with periodic action scapes and incorporates multifarious folk and martial dialectics on stage.
Though the characters are from the bard’s famous play, however they are trapped in a new chronotope that essays their past and present as they don the fair in the foul and foul in the fair portraying the tale of their life. This play uses both facts from history and fiction from the bard’s play as a canvas to paint a new postmodern pastiche caught between primitive innocence and modern decadence.

According to Prajna, “It’s an absolute honour for me to be singing an original composition by Dipesh for The Bong Studio. Had a lot of fun recording and shooting for this song.

During shoot Krish constantly encouraged me and Rishav was kind enough to do my styling for this video. Overall I had a blast working with the entire team and look forward to working with them again.” According to Krish Bose, the founder and Director of Bong Studio“ At the bong studio we have always promoted original Bengali songs and it is a great privilege for us to be working with one of our favourite musical artist, Prajna Dutta who has a mellifluous voice and wonderful musicianship.”
