PwCIF, in collaboration with SEEDS, has supported the establishment of a flood-resilient shelter in Nikori village under the Disoi gram panchayat, Golaghat district of Assam, where the Mising tribal community faces the brunt of the flooding. This shelter was made with the participation of the local community, including masons, and using local resources such as bamboo. The support includes the main shelter, toilet and WASH facilities and kitchen. This shelter will house the most vulnerable community members such as the elderly, people with disabilities, pregnant women and others during times of flood. A shelter management committee has been formed which will take up complete ownership of the shelter. SatyavatiBerera, COO, PwC India says, “In everything we do for underserved sections of our society, we remain rooted to our Purpose of building trust in society and solving important problems.”
