Shillong, April 26: Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MPDCL) on Friday issued a notification stating that there will be no power supply at 132/33 KV Mawlai Grid Sub Station and 33/11 KV Sub Stations due to preventive maintenance work. On April 27 from 10 am to 4 pm in various areas.

The affected areas include the whole of Mawprem, Lower Mawbah, Upper Mawbah, TB Hospital, Lummawbah, Lewduh, Mission and surrounding areas, Wahthabru, Sunny Hill, Lumdiengiri, Quallapaty, part of Jaiaw Langsnging, Garikhana, MES, Upper Lachumiere, Lama Villa, part of Lower Lachumiere, part of Laban, the whole of Oxford, Keating Road, part of Police Bazar, part of Umsohsun, the whole of Malki, Motinagar, Lumpyngngad, Dhankheti, Cleave Colony, Risa Colony, Lumsohphoh, parts of Laitumkhah, parts of Shillong Jowai Road from Malki Point up to Fire Brigade junction, the whole of Nongkseh and Umlyngka.

However, MPDCL informed that if the work is completed quickly then the power supply can be restored even before the above time.

Recently East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi today confirmed that the HNLC is using latest technologies including social media to lure youths to commit illegal activities in the state. Actually the SP however added that the Meghalaya police too have lastest technologies to deal with the Modus operandi of the HNLC. In fact asking youths not to fall prey to the tactics of HNLC, the SP said that those who are giving finance to HNLC are indulging in teror funding and Police would take action against such individuals.

Actually the statement came from East Khasi Hills SP as the police is also investigating about the financial funding into the recent IED blast at Harijan Colony. This is actually very bad news as this type of activity is going on and affecting the youth very much. In fact people should take this type of case very strictly and take immediate action if they find anything suspicious so that everything is under control.

Recently The Meghalaya Energy Power Generation Corporation Limited (MePGCL) on Thursday announced restrictions on the movement of vehicles for a period of eight days, starting from March 31, at the Umiam Bridge in view of the ongoing retrofitting work which is very essential. Actually the MePGCL had stated that there will be complete traffic blockage of the Umiam Bridge for a minimum of six hours from 8 am to 2 pm on March 31. They actually stated that after the work is completed, only ambulances will be allowed to ply. In fact one half of the road will be opened downstream of the bridge for vehicles upto four tons of weight during the 8 days from March 31 upto 7 am of April 8. Thereafter, vehicles upto 15 tons will also be allowed downstream of the bridge.

The deputy commissioners of East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts have requested the PWD to examine and identify the alternative routes during the total closure of the Umiam Dam for six hours on March 31 from 8 am to 2 pm.

At a time when authorities are taking measures to open a park at Golf Link Road area, recently random playing of golf without proper management is raising safety concern among the general public. A golf ball reportedly hit a car belonging to a female government employee working at NEHU campus, completely cracking the front window shield and leaving the female driver injured and bleeding. This reportedly transpired at 10 am on March 12.

Some players were reportedly playing at the site of the golf field where practicing the sport is not allowed. Actually when the matter was not brought to the notice of the golf club management, the players nor the management took any responsibility forcing the victim to seek legal aid from Pasteur Beat House. This is actually very sad incident as proper management is not happening and people get injured due to this. We should take this matter very seriously and solve the problem so that everything runs properly.

Recently a mild intensity earthquake hit western Meghalaya

On Tuesday afternoon a mild-intensity earthquake hit western Meghalaya, an official said. The earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 was detected at a depth of 5 km in West Garo Hills district at 2:27 pm, the official at the Regional Seismological Centre here said. Actually the tremors were felt across the state but there were no reports of loss of lives or damaged property. This is not very serious issue as this type of incident always happens and people need to know how to survive from it.

One day spring summer exhibition in Shillong

Recently the one-day spring-summer exhibition was organized by The Vintage Vogue at Courtyard, by Marriott on Wednesday. Actually organizers Paridhi Agarwal and Jyoti Agarwal, who curated the entire exhibition, highlighted that the stalls feature a wide range of products, including apparel, footwear, and organic items, catering to various price ranges. In fact Paridhi Agarwal expressed, “The concept behind hosting such an exhibition in a five-star hotel is to encourage people from all backgrounds to visit and explore the variety of items on display, even if they don’t make purchases.”

For SBA CM urged to provide immediate temporary office

Recently The Shillong Bar Association (SBA) on Monday urged the Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma to provide immediate temporary accommodation. Actually a delegate from the Shillong Bar Association had met Chief Minister in his office chamber to inform him on their plight of the members/lawyers of the association after the terrible fire incident in the SBA building on the night of February 24. In fact the Shillong Bar Association (SBA) delegates also requested the Chief Minister for immediate sanction of money for reconstruction of the Shillong Bar Association building in the interest of the members of the Bar, the public in general and for smooth functioning of the courts in the District.

In Shillong 1269 high end tourists visited Cherry Blossom Festival

Recently the much-hyped Cherry Blossom Festival in November last year was attended by tourists from all around the country, out of which only 1269 tourists can be termed as high-value tourists. From February 26 to March 3 a week long Science programme

Recently as part of the celebration of National Science Day 2024, the State Council of Science Technology and Environment, Meghalaya, along with Shillong Science Centre are jointly organising a week long Science programme from February 26 to March 3. Actually during the week, an open to all Run for Science (Marathon) competition will be organised on February 26. In fact there will be spot registration at 5:45 am. Actually the Run will commence from Polo Parking Lot via Golf Links-Mawroh-Sanker-Shillong Science Centre.

In reality other activities to follow during the week are exposure visits, night sky observation, workshops and seed ball plantation across the State. Actually a two day main event will be held on the 28th and 29th February, 2024 at State Convention Centre, Shillong where around 400 participants will take part. In fact during the two day programme many activities will be held including exhibition by scientific organisations and grassroots innovators, popular talk by eminent personalities, hands on science experiments, et al.
