Recently several Government Meetei employees have urged the Election Commission and all relevant authorities to let them do election duty at Meetei villages given the situation in Manipur. It is reported that some Government employees who are Meeteis have been given election duty at Tamenglong and Noney. Actually speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, a staff teacher Nongmaithem Hemchandra said that it will be unsafe for the Meeteis to pass through Kuki villages and discharge election duty at Tamenglong and Noney. In fact he said that they have taken a resolution to not discharge election duty at Tamenglong and Noney.


Many places in Manipur are still unsafe to attend office and sending them to areas which otherwise have been seen as sensitive or pass through high risk areas for election duty would be problematic. Stating that the atmosphere in Manipur is not conducive for the Meeteis to take the road surface and go to Noney and Tamenglong, actually Hemchandra asked how they can pass through all the sensitive areas along Imphal-Tamenglong road amid the volatile situation in the State.

Recently Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) distributed sports items to residents of Mulam village in Ukhrul district as part of the Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme on Wednesday. Actually the initiative was part of Assam Rifles’ ongoing efforts to connect with the local populace and engage in welfare activities aimed at enhancing community relations. In fact the sports items, including volleyball, football, football shoes, football gloves, badminton rackets, shuttlecocks, and other indoor sports equipment, were provided to the village.

In reality the village chief and members of the local youth club attended the function, informed a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S). This is actually good thing as Assam Rifles are distributing sport items and helping people to engage in sport activity. Actually playing sports is very good habit as it give benefits in many ways and people should find some time to play sports. Recently in connection with the observance of Road Safety Month from January 15 to February 14 on the theme ‘Suraksha Jeevan Raksha’, Manipur Police Traffic Control Wing and Transporters & Drivers’ Council (TDC) took out a traffic awareness bike rally from Kangla Western Gate on this Friday. Actually the bike rally participated by several traffic officers including Traffic Control Police Wing Manipur additional SP Amakcham Debananda was flagged off by Traffic Control Police Wing SP Wungpam Kasar.

In fact speaking in this regard, SP Wangpam Kasar appealed to the people to strictly follow traffic rules and regulations. Actually while urging two wheeler riders to wear helmet and carry vehicle documents, he advised the parents not to encourage their underage wards drive vehicles along with emphasising that adult motorists should not use mobile phone while driving in road. In reality he informed that the number of deaths due to substance abuse is lower than those killed in accidents. As such, everyone should obey traffic rules very strictly and follow road safety guidelines, the SP reiterated.

Recently twenty four consumers were arrested for unpaid electric bills and illegal usage of electricity during widespread raids conducted by the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd (MSPDCL) officers and staff across Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts. As per a statement issued by the Executive Director of MSPDCL, one was arrested from Napet Palli area, one from Tera Sayang area, six from Thangmeiband Tarung, two from Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, one from Babupara, two from Lilong, five from Wangjing, two from Yairipok and four from Kodompokpi Lamkhai area making it more clear.

In reality MSPDCL has disconnected the electricity connections of these twenty four consumers. More drives will be carried out in the near future to detect and clamp down on unauthorized power usage, said the statement. This step taken by MSPDCL is very correct as illegal usage of electricity is very bad and it actually shows that we need to be more educated so that we learn to live in a good society.

Recently Sugnu MLA K Ranjit Singh extended financial assistance to news anchor of ISTV Network S Arunbala Devi, who is undergoing treatment at RIMS hospital, following a road accident on December 26, 2023 while returning home after finishing duty. Actually MLA Ranjit visited RIMS hospital on Friday and handed over Rs 10,000 to Arun-bala Devi and prayed for her speedy recovery.

In reality Arunbala suffered multiple leg injuries in the accident and awaiting for the second operation after completion of the first operation. Actually this is very sad news as news anchor S Arunbala Devi is undergoing treat after a road accident and people want her recovery. Recently two people were killed and five others were injured in a fresh firing between two groups in Manipur on Tuesday. Two Manipur Police commandos were killed and two sustained bullet wounds after heavily-armed militants targeted them amid renewed violence in Moreh, a business town close to the Myanmar border, on this Wednesday. In fact the deceased have been identified as Wangkhem Somorjit (32) and Takhellambam Saileshwore from Lamshang in Imphal West district, officials said. Actually Somorjit was hit by bullets during an ambush near Ima Kondong Lairembi Devi temple in the morning. He succumbed to injuries during treatment at Key Location Point of Assam Rifles. Saileshwore was shot on this Wednesday evening, officials said.

In reality Constable N Bheem (35), who was hit by a bullet in the left leg, and ASI Sidharth Thokchom (35), who sustained injuries on his face and ears, were airlifted and have been admitted to RIMS in Imphal. This is actually very sad incident as violence is happening in Manipur and effecting people in Manipur. Today we need peace so that everyone lives happily and make our place better.

Recently the CMO directed departments concerned to take immediate necessary action to prevent an environment calamity, making use of all available resources in terms of machinery, manpower and expertise. Actually heavy fuel leaked from a power station in Manipur’s Imphal West district and spilled into streams flowing alongside it, officials said. In reality the incident happened on Wednesday (January 10) night at the Leimakhong power station. In fact streams passing through villages such as Kanto Sabal and Sekmai were affected by the spill, they said. These streams meet the Imphal river- the lifeline of the region- downstream, they added. To solve this problem the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) directed the departments concerned to take immediate necessary action to prevent an environment calamity, making use of all available resources in terms of machinery, manpower and expertise.

Presently heavy machinery was deployed to divert the flow of the water in the affected streams towards fields, an official told media. He also said that it is yet to be determined if miscreants were involved in this or if it was accidental. Actually locals said the water of the streams is used by them for daily chores. A resident of Kanto Sabal, Nongmai said that not just aquatic life but also the communities that depend on the water have been severely threatened by this spill.

Recently the 14th National Dalit Sahitya Conference 2024 organised by the Dalit Sahitya Academy, Manipur was held today at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal. Actually it was attended by DM University, Vice Chancellor, Prof N Rajmuhon Singh; Global Corona Award Committee Asia convenor, Dr Yumnam Mahendrakumar Singh; Smart Security Services Manipur secretary Laimayum Pratap Singh; and national secretary of Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Academy, New Delhi, as presidium members. During this conference discussion on problems faced by Dalits in India & abroad, and presentation of awards to Dalit workers & eminent scholars were the main highlights of the event.

This is actually very good thing as people are taking care of Dalits as today they need help so that they get importance in our society. India is a democratic country where everyone has equal rights and we should take it seriously so that in our country everyone lives happily. We need to give right position to Dalits so that we have a good environment and making India a country with modern thinking.
